Its mission is to ensure the technical consistency and effective coordination of the IAEA’s activities in the nuclear, radiation, transport and waste safety and nuclear security programmes. NSOC comprises three Sections: the Programme and Strategy Coordination Section, the Networks Management and Partnership Section and the Safety Standards and Security Guidance Development Section.The mission of the Programme and Strategy Coordination Section (PSCS) is to ensure the effective development and coordinated implementation of Major Programme 3 and to provide for a common strategic approach to cross cutting areas such as capacity building.Main PurposeUnder the general supervision of the Section Head/Programme Coordinator and senior professionals in PSCS, the Coordination Officer provides support and liaison coordination and implementation of MP3. The Coordination Officer assists in research and analysis, review and clearance of various reports.RoleThe Coordination Officer is: 1) an analyst, providing background information through research on relevant issues and interaction with counterparts in-house as well as in Member States’ diplomatic corps; 2) a liaison between internal experts and senior managers and Member States; 3) a team member, assisting the Section Head/Programme Coordinator and senior professionals in PSCS with support work for decision-making and in-house coordination; 4) a programme officer, supporting in the management of the funds, expediting and coordinating project implementation, assessing progress and reporting on the achievement of project results.Functions / Key Results ExpectedSupport the preparation of reports and documents for the Policy Making Organs of the IAEA, including annual reports and nuclear and radiation safety reports.
As main project officer, coordinate a range of cross-cutting projects across the Department, including technical meetings and international conferences.
Research and gather technical information for the preparation of policy papers, presentations and advocacy materials.
Coordinate and draft inputs for briefing notes for senior management,
Support the coordination of preparation of the IAEA’s programme and budget proposal for presentation to Member States, and the coordination of monitoring of and reporting on the programme and budget implementation.
Prepare project plans and tracking tools to monitor the performance of workplan objectives.
