If you have strong environmental management experience and want to make a tangible impact at a leading institution committed to sustainability, this is your opportunity.As the Environment Officer, you will support implementation and management of our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and spearhead key initiatives across areas such as:

• Waste avoidance and circular economy
• Sustainable catering and procurement
• Carbon reduction (Scope 3 emissions)
• Staff and student engagement
• Sustainability communications and reporting

You’ll work closely with faculties, departments, and external stakeholders to embed best practice in environmental performance, ensure legislative compliance, and promote behavioural change across campus.Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate EMS activities and support strategic environmental projects
• Lead internal environmental audits and ensure continuous improvement
• Support management of waste operations from procurement to end-of-life
• Provide expert advice, training, and sustainability resources to stakeholders
• Contribute to university-wide sustainability reporting, benchmarking, and league table performance
• Develop strategies, reports, and feasibility studies to drive efficiency and impact

We’re looking for someone with:

• A degree (or equivalent experience) in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Waste Management, or a related field
• ISO 14001 environmental auditor qualification and hands-on EMS experience
• Strong understanding of waste legislation and sustainable development
• Exceptional interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills
• Proven ability to deliver impactful sustainability projects and reports
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and influencing organisational change

Desirable:

• Experience in the public or HE sector
• Membership of a relevant professional body
• Welsh language skills (Level 1 minimum)
