Job description: Job Title: Financial ControllerDepartment: IR0002 FinanceReporting to: Finance DirectorPurpose of this roleReporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will provide the company with a strong financial control environment and will provide day-to-day leadership and direction for the Finance team. This role will oversee financial accounting operations, be responsible for monthly close processes and reporting, and will have responsibility for statutory reporting, taxes and compliance.This role is broad in scope and will also be a key member of a management team that is implementing significant process and systems change across Finance and the wider organisation, to provide greater efficiency, better business decisions support, and an improved control environment.Key objectives and responsibilities of the roleOversee day-to-day financial accounting operations including accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger.Ensure timely and accurate monthly accounts prepared under US GAAP, with reconciled balance sheets across all entities.Ensure accurate revenue accounting and reporting is conducted for all revenue streams in compliance with group revenue recognition policies;Take overall responsibility for accounting processes and technical accounting issues in collaboration with US and UK colleagues as required;Ensure a strong control environment is maintained and continuous improvements are made in areas such as procurement, revenue recognition, and contract management;Work with the Finance Director to define and lead a programme of significant improvements to finance processes, systems, and controls, by identifying inefficiencies and implementing automation and digitalisation of financial operations.Manage a finance team of eight including three direct reports (AP, AR and Payroll), and guide and mentor the team to maximise their performance;Manage quarterly re-forecasts and annual budgeting processes;Ensure robust cost control is applied throughout the organisation;Maintain accounting systems and all systems improvement initiatives;Manage treasury and banking within the organisation, including cashflow forecasting and management of banking relationships, in accordance with group policies;Manage the balance sheet accounts including monthly control account reconciliations;Ensure appropriate analysis of profitability, variances to budget and other KPIs are available to SLT, Board and GroupLiaise and work in partnership with other functions of the College in the undertaking of the above objectives such as admissions, HR, IT, academic management and operations;Build strong working relationships with colleagues in the UK and US finance teams.Fulfil holding company reporting requirements set by the immediate and ultimate parents;Provide support for internal audit requests both in accordance with the parent company SOX programme and ad-hoc internal audit reviews;Ensure compliance and timely filings for local statutory accounting and taxation requirements, and manage the statutory audit.Act as a key point of contact for finance-related inquiries within the institution and wider group, and ensure Finance Director, President and Group stakeholders are made aware of significant issues in a timely manner.Qualifications and experienceThe post holder will possess the following essential attributes:Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent);Five+ years post-qualification commercial experience;Good planning and organisation skills, and experience working on finance process change projects;Strong understanding of effective control environments;Understanding of US GAAP;Excellent management skills including a track record of building credibility, motivating teams and developing staff;Excellent analysis, communication and stakeholder management skills;Experience of reporting internationally is desirable but not essential;Experience of working in the education sector is desirable but not essential.Pay & BenefitsThe salary for this role is DOE.Free Internal Courses;Discounted Fees for Family Members;Life Assurance & Disabilities Cover;Sports & Social;Employee Assistance Programme;Employee Discount Scheme;Paid sick leave;Death-In-Service Benefit.The job specification is a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to undertake.
