Job description: The internship is located in the Research and Knowledge Production Section, Research and Trend Analysis Branch, Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna (Austria). The intern will work under the direct supervision of Professional staff of the Section. The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to: • Collect information based on review of scientific and grey literature on different research topics and sections related to the impact of drug use on public safety and security. • Compile and summarize the information based on literature review related to the research topics/areas assigned. • Assist with reference management and formatting for written outputs. • Assist in presenting the compiled data in graphs and tables. • Produce information output by designing visual content for digital applications (e.g., infographics). • Assist in coordination of different tasks related to the World Drug Report. • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). • Be computer literate in standard software applications. Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point is essential. • Degree in public health, pharmacy, sociology, political science, criminology or a related field, with a focus of studies on drug policy is required. Some experience in drug research and publishing in peer review journals (or comparable study area) would be an asset. • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D.
