Job description: The Office of the Executive Director of UNODC and Director-General of UNOV is hiring an intern at the UNODC and UNOV headquarters in Vienna, Austria, as soon as possible. We are seeking a highly motivated graduate (or as applicable undergraduate in the final year of their studies) who wish to gain professional experience in communications and policy coordination at an international organization. This internship will include practical and educational experience and provide an exciting opportunity for the selected candidates to work in a multicultural context. Under the supervision of the Policy Coordination Officer, the intern will work on various projects and tasks, which may include assignments that are relevant to their educational background and interests. For further information on the work of UNOV and UNODC, please visit www.unov.org and www.unodc.org respectively. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours). The Intern will assist in: • Researching, compiling and reviewing relevant data for briefs and presentations for the Executive Director • Reviewing concept notes and project documents/revisions • Preparing briefing material for the Executive Director’s engagements, including bilateral meetings and missions • Reviewing divisional submissions to the Executive Director including quarterly activity reports • Researching and compiling data and information for use in speeches and strategic communications products and documents • Contributing to the drafting of communication products for the DG/ED with a focus on strategic audience engagement • Assisting with strategic planning and organization of photo and video services for the DG/ED to support key communication products • Assisting with organizing and archiving the DG/ED’s multimedia products (photos, videos, etc.) • Perform other tasks as necessary.Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a degree programme in political science, international relations, journalism, communications or other related field is required. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Excellent communication skills are desirable. Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams is desirable.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
