Job description: InternshipsThe IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree (see Internship web pages for further details).The purpose of the programme is:To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole.To benefit the IAEA’s programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year.Organizational SettingThe Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications (NA) implements the IAEA’s Major Programme 2, “Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection”. This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, marine environment and radiation technologies. These programmes are supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. The Major Programme’s objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes.
The Research Contracts Administration Section (NACA) manages the IAEA’s coordinated research activities (CRAs). The objective of the coordinated research activities is to stimulate and coordinate the undertaking of research and development in selected nuclear fields by scientists in IAEA and FAO Member States. NACA manages all aspects of the CRAs, including programmatic and financial planning and implementation relating to research, technical and doctoral contracts and research agreements, coordinated research projects (CRPs) and Research Coordination Meetings. NACA is also in charge of the administration of the IAEA’s Collaborating Centres Scheme and manages the administrative aspects of Practical Arrangements and Memorandum of Understanding for the Department.Main PurposeThe Intern will join the Research Contracts Administration Section and assist in compilation and preparation of manuals, guides, training materials, presentations and other communication products, as well as organization of meetings and webinars.Functions / Key Results Expected
- Assist with compilation and preparation of policy and operational manuals, guides, training materials, presentations and other communication products
- Assist with the data clean-up exercises, and any follow up tasks
- Assist with recording and filing of files and the organization of the file repository
- Assist with the collection and communication of web stories
- Assist with organization of NA meetings, events and webinars
- Assist in maintenance of CRA and CC Web pages, gather other information required for general media and visibility use.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Section Head.
Qualifications and ExperienceBachelor’s Degree – communication, international affairs, political science, media, international relations or related fieldExcellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office packageGood interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team, with respect for and sensitivity to a multicultural environmentApplicant Eligibility
- Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
- Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree.
- Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA’s internship programme.
- Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset.
- Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
