Job description: Job DescriptionDuration:Temporary externally funded non Grant-in-Aid contract post, the indicative duration of which is 30 months, subject to contract. A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such a panel will remain active for a maximum period of 12 months.Basic Function:The main duties of the successful candidate will involve managing the delivery of the Teagasc activities under the LiveNet project, including delivery of all project deliverables assigned to Teagasc. In addition to being one of 20 partners in the project, Teagasc is responsible for co-ordinating work area 1 (WA 1) “Co-create and animate an EU wide livestock advisors network” and the successful candidate will be expected to lead delivery of this work area. Finally, the successful candidate will be required to travel occasionally to various EU locations for project meetings and activities.Background:Teagasc is the national public body providing integrated research, advisory, education and training services to the Irish agri-food sector. It is a Development Agency of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. The Teagasc mission is to provide scientific leadership and support to Irish farmers and food companies in achieving a sustainable food system. The LiveNet project which commenced in January 2025, is a fixed term (five years) CSA-type (Co-ordination and Support Actions) project, funded under the Horizon Europe programme. There are 20 partners, including Teagasc. The main aim of the project is to establish and sustain an EU-wide network of livestock advisors, enhancing skills, capacity and long-term knowledge exchange practices. A key objective of the project is to collect, evaluate, analyse, adapt and translate innovative advisory practices for sustainable livestock production in a multi-actor setting in 29 European countries. These practices will be promoted within the network of livestock advisors through targeted knowledge exchange and scaling activities tailored to each country in the project. Teagasc is now seeking to appoint a Project Coordinator to manage the delivery of its project commitments.Job Objectives

  • Project manage the Teagasc commitments as part of the LiveNet project including close monitoring of deadlines, milestones and deliverables under the direction of the project leader.
  • Lead the delivery of work area 1 “Co-create and animate an EU wide livestock advisors network” and the delivery of specific tasks in Work Area 2.
  • Initiate and carry out partnership activities between project partners and associated network partners including organising and supporting structured knowledge exchange and networking activities across the EU.
  • Support the identification of innovative advisory practices for livestock advisors by collaborating with a newly established national network (within Ireland), with the goal of recommending these practices for broader adoption across the LiveNet advisor network.
  • Participate and contribute to project activities including project management, project communications and project networking.
  • Represent Teagasc at project meetings (this will involve some travel to various EU locations).
  • Maintain a high profile for the project both within Teagasc and Ireland through various communications activities (publications, public relations, social media etc.).
  • Complete all reporting activities associated with the project.
  • Assist Teagasc management and administrative staff in achieving good governance and risk management through co-operation and adherence to administrative procedures and practices.
  • Assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service charter and action plan.
  • Actively participate in the annual business planning and Performance Management Development System (PMDS) processes.
  • Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.

  • A postgraduate degree and/or relevant advisory experience would be an advantage
  • Experience working with or within agricultural advisory networks.

Eligibility

  • This is an open public competition. Should a current serving Teagasc staff member be successful in their application through open public competition for this post, their current contract of employment with Teagasc will come to an end on taking up this post.

Expected salary: €41580 – 78830 per year
