Job description: About the positionThe Protection Monitoring Officer is responsible for the timely, high-quality, and effective data collection on the protection environment in order to support and improve the protection services within their area of operation. - Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.
- Implement delegated protection project portfolio according to plan of action.
- Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
- Ensure proper filing of documents.
- Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need and explore and assess new and better ways to assist.
- Promote and share ideas for technical improvement
Specific responsibilities
- Lead the team in daily protection monitoring activities (including direct observations, consultations and meetings with communities, interviews with key informants and focus group discussions (FGDs), assessment and study, etc…).
- Provide guidance and supervision to the Protection Monitoring Technical Assistants to ensure that activities are carried out in accordance with relevant standards, guidelines and SOPs.
- Regularly accompany the team on the field visits to provide support and guidance and to monitor quality of monitoring activities.
- Compile information collected by team members and prepared periodic protection reports, and attend meetings as required.
- Support protection Team leader and Protection Coordinator in designing and delivering training to the NRC staff and community mobilizers to ensure that they are able to carry out proper protection monitoring.
- Develop, organize and deliver training for community members/groups.
- Ensure that all data and information pertaining to protection monitoring are handled in strict confidence, and in line with applicable data protection and information sharing protocols.
- Provide necessary documents to the field team related to protection monitoring activities.
- Attending ad-hoc internal meeting or external meeting/training to represent the protection team and present as necessary
QualificationsGeneric professional competencies:
- Experience working as a Project/Protection Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Good knowledge of English (in addition to Arabic), both written and verbal
Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:
- University degree in social work, psychology, social sciences, anthropology and other related fields
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in protection/Gender-based violence activities in particular protection monitoring, case management, counselling, social work or other related field;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination, and safety of client at all times
- Strong ability to organise work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, work independently and with limited direct supervision and prioritise work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity, and flexibility
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination, and safety of client at all times
- Advanced in written and spoken English and fluency in Arabic.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel)
