Job description: At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a position as Research Assistant in Underwater Technology is available for appointment starting August 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. AAU Energy has approx. 300 employees of many nationalities, of which 25 are administrative staff. In addition, AAU Energy constantly has approx. 50-70 guest researchers from around the world.Research and teaching are in the absolute world elite in the field of energy, and we have extensive and leading workshop and laboratory facilities, where research and innovation are carried out in direct collaboration with industry to a great extent.The position is offered in relation to the research program “Offshore Drones and Robotics” and the research assistant will be positioned to the Esbjerg Section.
Research areas will be within ongoing projects focused on underwater robotics, specifically within the areas of navigation and perception.The research assistant will support the group by participating in laboratory work, including experimental setup, data acquisition, and maintenance of technical equipment. Additionally, the role requires involvement in preparing and drafting research proposals, assisting with funding applications, and contributing to written reports, papers, and presentations. Beyond direct research-related tasks, the position includes responsibilities related to teaching support, such as facilitating practical sessions and workshops, assisting students in laboratory environments, and providing technical guidance when necessary.Qualified candidates should hold a masters degree in robotics, marine technology, engineering, or a closely related discipline. Essential qualifications include technical competence and practical experience within robotics or marine technologies, as well as familiarity with underwater navigation methods (such as inertial navigation and acoustic positioning) and sensor-based perception techniques, including sonar or visual imaging.You may obtain further professional information from Associate Professor, Jesper Liniger, jel@energy.aau.dkRead more about AAU at www.aau.dk.
