Job description: PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- We are looking for a financial regulation Managing Associate or Legal Director to join the London Team, but you will be part of our national team and work with Partners and for clients across the UK and internationally. You will work closely with our regulated lending and banking (RLB) Partners (Rosanna Bryant, Clare Hughes and Sophie Skelton) to help grow the work and profile of this part of our practice.

THE TEAM
Addleshaw Goddard’s Financial Regulation Team is one of largest in the UK with a mix of lawyers and compliance professionals split over Leeds, London, and Scotland. The team is headed up by Rosanna Bryant and 10 other Partners with around 21 other fee earners.
This role sits within our regulated lending and banking (RLB) offering of the team. The RLB Team is tier 1 ranked in Chambers and Partners. Chambers 2025 provides that, “Addleshaw Goddard has real strength and depth in the consumer finance space”.
Our clients include leading clearing banks, challenger banks, building societies, credit card providers, asset finance companies, debt collectors, debt purchasers, debt management companies, brokers, home credit lenders and point of sale finance providers. We also advise smaller niche lenders of financial services providers, such as specialist private banks.
We provide regular publications to our clients that allow them to stay up-to-date on developments in the consumer finance industry. AG is a member of, and active participant in, trade associations, and we also organise regular meetings of the Regulated Lending and Banking Forum which brings together specialists from industry and private practice.WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE
You will work closely with the RLB Partners and work with other Managing Associates and Associates delivering high quality work to clients as well as helping to win new work. You can expect to have the opportunity to play a significant role in working for clients that are key to the firm. As part of this you may have the opportunity to undertake client secondments to assist our clients and to build your skills and expertise further.

Whatever your level, you’ll be expected to play a full role in the Team, including involvement in business development and regular client contact. The team will take a genuine interest and support you with your development therefore offering excellent career prospects. You’ll be involved in the following type of work.
- Drafting customer facing documentation for RLB products, including regulated consumer credit agreements, regulated mortgage documents and current account and savings terms and conditions;
- Supporting the Partners in managing client relationships;;
- Providing sign-off on marketing materials, including TV advertising, digital promotions and billboard promotions;
- Helping clients assess the impact of new or proposed legislation and informing their implementation or lobbying strategies;
- Conducting compliance audits of businesses or product documentation;
- Providing guidance to interpret legal requirements, such as the approach to Consumer Credit Act early settlement and APR requirements;
- Assisting with FCA authorisation applications;
- Assisting with enforcement action being taken against clients by the Financial Conduct Authority.
YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
- You will have at least 5 years’ experience advising on regulated lending and banking matters. This should include experience advising on the Consumer Credit Act and subordinate legislation and the Consumer Credit Sourcebook. Ideally, the successful candidate will also have experience advising on the Mortgage Conduct of Business Sourcebook, Banking Conduct of Business Sourcebook and Payment Services Regulations.
- Most importantly, you should have a real and genuine interest in this area and be keen to grow that knowledge in a proactive way.
- You should be adept at building strong client relationships and also like working in a team.
- Our ideal candidate should have a keen intellect and a commercial mindset. You will be able to demonstrate that you are able to provide pragmatic and tailored advice in a way that supports internal and external clients alike.
- The ability to actively support complex transactions, liaising and coordinating with fee earners from other relevant disciplines as needed.
