The company is currently incubating within the INFANT Centre and Tyndall, where it is developing a ground-breaking medical device for monitoring the foetus during labour.The aim of this project is to develop a novel intrapartum non-invasive pH sensor to monitor the foetus for hypoxia during labour and improve the quality of patient care. pH is currently accepted as the gold standard parameter, which correlates directly to clinical outcomes and in particular hypoxia. Perinatal hypoxia (a lack of oxygen at the time of delivery) can lead to several serious medical conditions including Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) and brain injuries that may lead to paralysis and severe brain damage, resulting in Cerebral Palsy, seizures, cognitive disabilities and behavioural disorders. According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, perinatal hypoxia and perinatal asphyxia accounts for approximately one third of neonatal deaths.The current research team led by a Senior Clinician and Senior Researcher with many years of experience in the research, development, fabrication and clinical application are now seeking an experienced Commercial Lead to progress the project through the final stages of an Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Fund project to spin-out company formation.INFANT UCC and Tyndall have a history of spinning out successful deep tech companies which have exited via trade sales such as Firecomms, InfiniLED and SensL. Strong internal and external support will be provided to the project from INFANT UCC, Tyndall’s new ventures team and UCC Innovation (TTO).The successful candidate will have a demonstrated history of working in the life science and medical device arena and will ideally be skilled in the areas of People Management, Team Development, Business Planning, Product Development, Fundraising, Leadership and Innovation.
