Job description: Offer DescriptionApplications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Civil Engineering.Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of a 12 month full-time fixed-term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher with Dr. Daniel McCrum’s team in the Modern Methods of Construction Research Group at UCD ( ).To meet the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act 2021 commitments of net zero carbon by 2050 and to achieve a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030, the construction industry is looking to integrate innovative MMC products, systems and processes. In relation to housing, the construction industry is investigating design life requirements for lightweight cladding systems in Ireland considering, certification & associated testing, required maintenance and also repairability and replacement with due consideration to recyclability and circularity. Two issues are currently acting as barriers to this: (1) the understanding of the current complex landscape around certification of innovative construction products, and (2) clarity around design life requirements for lightweight cladding systems. This project is in collaboration with two industry partners: Glenveagh Homes and Cairn.The successful candidate will carry out research on certification procedures for innovative construction products. Additionally, the candidate will compile evidence for design life requirements for lightweight cladding systems based on review of other jurisdictions, but also best practice. The project requires knowledge related to construction/engineering and the certification of construction products. This project is funded by the Enterprise Ireland through Construct Innovate.The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a motivated team investigating the adoption and certification of innovative construction products.Fixed Salary: €45,847 Per AnnumClosing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on the 21st of August 2025.Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified.
