Reference no.: 4378We are searching for highly motivated next-generation scholars to support us in social science research and teaching on contemporary Japan.Your personal sphere of influence:As part of your employment, you will independently realize your doctoral project, which ideally fits in with the joint research topics at the Institute. As university assistant prae doc, our highly engaged team provides you with a supportive and cooperative environment and access to our running research activities. Currently our team in Japanese Studies consists of nine academic colleagues and two working in administration. Our research focusses on the increasing diversity and its impact on contemporary society in Japan. We appreciate maintaining a supportive and cooperative working environment and place great emphasis on social as well as professional exchange. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.Your future tasks:You actively participate in research, teaching and administration, by

  • developing a doctoral research project on diversity and intersectionality
  • presenting and publishing your own research
  • teaching on Japan and basic methods at BA level
  • supporting our administrative tasks, in particular in regard to the u:japan lecture database
  • This is part of your profile:
  • MA degree in Japanese Studies and/or social sciences (focus of thesis research on Japan)
  • Theoretical and methodological skills in social sciences
  • Experience of studying and researching in Japan
  • Your research interests are in line with the research interests of the Department.
  • High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
  • Excellent command of written and spoken German, English and Japanese
  • Ability to work in a team

Additional skills and competence (desirable skills):Ideally you are experienced or versed in * publishing and layouting

  • conference organization
  • MaxQDA and social scinece GIS software
