The Department of German at the University of Vienna is the largest academic center covering all fields relating to the German language and German-language literatures. The core areas are Modern German Literature, Medieval German Language and Literature, Germanic Linguistics, German as a Foreign and Second Language, and German Teaching Methodology. In addition, the areas of Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, Literary Theory, and Literature for Children and Young Adults are well established. Up to 5000 students are enrolled.Your personal sphere of influence:As a university assistant prae doc, you will have the opportunity to work at one of the largest departments of German Philology worldwide consisting of an inspiring group of people dedicated to a manifold range of research and academic teaching.Your future tasks:You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

• A dissertation project on German-language literature of the 18th-21st centuries is expected. The consideration of Austrian literature in international context is desired. In addition:
• In-depth knowledge of German-language literary history of the modern era
• General knowledge in Austrian literary and cultural history
• Collaboration in research, teaching and administration
• Participation in research projects in the above-mentioned subject area
• The successful candidate is expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months
• Independent teaching of introductory and literary courses according to the collective agreement
• Supervision of students
• Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
• Administration of departmental workflows, assistance in teaching and research

Desirable qualifications are:

• Interests in the field of literary aesthetics and/or cultural sociology
• Teaching experience / Experience with the planning, organizing and implementation of scientific meetings
• Knowledge of university structures
• Experience abroad
• Experience in academic work
• Lecturing actvities

This is part of your personality:

• Above-average degree in German Philology (Magister or MA or UF German, perferably in NdL)
• Expertise and didactic competences in Modern German Literature
• High ability to express oneself in speaking and writing
• Excellent command of written and spoken English
• IT user skills
• Ability to work in a team

What we offer:The employment duration is 4 years.
