Job description: About the positionThe purpose of this position is to support the day-to-day implementation of the WASH services activities, including water trucking, mudslinging, solid waste management and latrine maintenance or related projects delivered by NRC in Northeast Syria. The position-holder will be duty-stationed in the camps in Al Hasakah and will be expected to travel daily to other camps in Al Hasakah and Ar-Raqqa Governorates when needed. - Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
- Assist a range of support with the implementation of the WASH portfolio according to plan of action
- Implements independently procedures and activities within own function or core competency as delegated
- Responsible for organising and delivery of tasks in line with priorities and standards
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support is being provided, in order to be most effective in supporting the team
- Use initiative in day to day problem solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities and standards for the area of work
- Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
- Ensure proper filing of documents
- Promote and share ideas for improvement in your area of expertise
Specific responsibilities
- Technical Support: Provide delegated technical support to WASH projects, specifically water trucking, water quality, solid waste management, and latrine cleaning activities, ensuring compliance with relevant standards during beneficiary registration and identification and activities implementation by the service provider(s).
- Project Implementation Support: Assist in implementing WASH projects delivered through direct modality throughout the entire project cycle, following the direction of the line manager.
- Assessments: Support WASH technical aspects of Area Office-level needs assessments, including Rapid Needs Assessments (RNAs), Multi-Sector Needs Assessments (MSNAs), Detailed/Sectoral Assessments, and construction assessments (including BoQs).
Reporting and Monitoring: Responsible for implementing and conducting quality and safety inspections of the contracted manpower and machiners for implementing the WASH services.
- Safe and Inclusive Programming: Support the integration of protection mainstreaming in all WASH or related activities throughout the project cycle, ensuring the safety, dignity, and diverse needs of beneficiaries, aligning activities with the Protection Mainstreaming Strategy, tools, and guidelines.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Coordinate with camp administrations, community leaders, and stakeholders within the area office policies and the line manager’s instructions.QualificationsGeneric professional competencies
- Minimum of 1 year experience from working as an Assistant in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Knowledge and experience within a relevant administration, craft or technical field and ideally a relevant Diploma or bachelor’s degree or above or similar qualification
- Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts.
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Context-related skills, knowledge, and experience
- Diploma in humanitarian studies, development studies, social sciences or similar.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in water and sanitation services distribution in the humanitarian sector.
- Experience in emergency response and distribution in camp settings.
- Good level in English, both written and verbal, is preferable
